New York Authorities are on the hunt for four people who ganged up on a man in a wheelchair. They beat him and stole his belongings earlier this month amid a rise of citywide robberies.
The incident took place on Nov. 8th before 2:30 a.m. in front of 267 Tremont Avenue in the Bronx. The 39 year old victim had a verbal dispute with an unidentified female, police reported.
CCTV surveillance showed the man in the wheelchair speaking to a male member of the group when he is first punched. The three men and one woman continued to punch him before dragging him out of his wheelchair. The then proceeded to punch, stomp, and kick the man.
Police reported the group fled the scene with the man’s backpack, which contained an iPhone 13 and $800 in cash.
It was reported the victim sustained injuries causing pain in his head and body, but he refused medical attention.
From Nov. 8 to Nov. 14, NYPD statistics show 352 robberies occurred citywide – a 30.9% increase compared to the same period last year. Citywide robberies year-to-date were up 2.9%, with 11,699 robberies committed through Nov. 14 compared to 11,373 during the same period last year.
Meanwhile, citywide crime year-to-date rose to 85,558 – a 1.9% increase compared to the same period last year, according to NYPD statistics.
It makes you wonder what kind of world are we living in right now. With a society already plagued with Covid-19 pandemic issues, do we really need to face crimes such as these too.
