School is a place that parents trust to take care of their children. However, for a Texas family, school turned into a bullying nightmare for a young 11-year old autistic boy.
The 11-year old non-verbal autistic boy, known as Sekai, was beaten up at school be a fellow student as staffers watched on and didn’t intervene.
The incident was caught on video and shows Sekai getting thrown to the ground by a much larger special needs student, after he appears to bump him while standing in a line at Jones Middle School in Humble, Texas.
After Sekai, who has the intellectual capacity of a 4 or 5-year-old, gets up, the student punches him to the ground again and repeatedly kicks him as he crawls along the floor.
At least one adult can be seen in the video watching the incident occur without stepping in to disperse or aid the situation. At one point, the staff member taps the student on the shoulder, but the boy continues to kick Sekai without the adult intervening.
It was found that three school aides were actually present at the time of the fight, but none of them stepped forward to diffuse or stop the assault.
The distressing incident occurred on Jan. 25, but has come to light now after Sekai’s grandmother, Veda Cavitt decided to take action.
“Those adults in that video stood there. They did not attempt to help my child get up off the ground. They did not offer him any assistance. They didn’t even check to see if he was injured,” Cavitt, who has custody of Sekai after both his parents passed.
Cavitt and advocates called on Aldine Independent School District to fire the aides.
“How can other special needs mothers send their children back to this school knowing the same paraprofessionals are standing in the same classrooms,” advocate Quanell X said.
In a statement Thursday, the school district announced the three school aides were let go.
“This incident should have never occurred,” Aldine ISD said in a statement. “The district trains paraprofessionals in nonviolent crisis intervention techniques at the beginning of each school year, and will reinforce that training during the remainder of this year.”
Truly disgusting. I hope the young boy is doing ok. What is going on with people in our country?. The old adage “help they neighbor” means nothing in this beating. Adults who do nothing should have the same thing happen to them . Seems like narcissism runs deep now a days. What a terrible shame this is. I am sorry this young boy went through such a traumatizing beating.
So sad that 3 “adults” didn’t stop this from happening. People seem to getting “programmed” to ignore the violence around us. Protect our kids! I pray little man is okay.
Schools in Texas would never allow such abuse, unless it’s the DAs in Austin who are fighting Governor Abbot about his child abuse laws to be lodged on predator types of child abuse within the community; schools have police officers in house to stop the bullying. Teachers are taught that their most vital job is “safety” in the classroom and on the playground. Therefore, my analysis of this story is faux news; or a contrived situation instigated by George Soros and his evil entities to degrade Texas and the students and teachers within. I wonder how much these “confederates” were paid to develop this “wag the dog”?
How could anyone stand by and watch this horrific act. These so called aides should face criminal charges, not just being fired. How would they like it if their child was in the same situation? I really don’t know what is happening to this world. It is very disheartening. I hope those aides don’t have a peaceful nights sleep ever.
