Hard-left City Councilwoman Kristin Richardson Jordan took to Twitter on Friday to say who she believes is responsible for Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine; and it’s Ukraine.
It’s the latest in a string of controversial remarks from the freshman Harlem lawmaker.
“Had Washington and Brussels taken Russia’s security concerns seriously this war wouldn’t be happening,” she claimed. “No country wants or deserves to have foreign powers placing missiles right on its borders.”
“In 2014, the US helped overthrow Ukraine’s democratically elected leader in an illegal coup, helped install a fascist government and empowered a far-right military all with the goal of destabilizing Russia,” she added. “The US has been sending the Ukrainian military weapons ($650M in military assistance this past year alone) which have ended up in the hands of neo-nazi militias like the Azov Battalion.”
Many of the tweets sent by Richardson Jordan were nearly identical to claims made by Russia’s authoritarian leader, Vladimir Putin, and other top officials at the Kremlin in recent weeks.
In the tweets, the councilwoman also deemed Ukraine’s 2014 widespread uprising against Putin ally Viktor Yanukovych as illegitimate.
Yanukovych was tossed from power by Ukrainians, who poured onto the streets to protest endemic corruption and Yanukovych’s decision to more closely align Ukraine with Russia.
The revolt was a culmination of tensions that had built in the country since his disputed win in 2010.
That was Yanukovych’s second bid to lead Ukraine after eventually losing a contest in 2004 to Viktor Yushchenko, an opponent of the Kremlin.
Yushchenko was famously poisoned in the midst of the 2004 campaign, leaving him permanently disfigured.
Putin seized a small but important piece of Ukraine, Crimea, in 2014, after Yanukovych was deposed. Then he began bankrolling proxy forces in two small parts of eastern Ukraine, violence that the councilwoman, like the Kremlin, blamed on Ukraine.
Richardson Jordan’s Claims
“The ethnically Russian Donbass region (Donetsk and Luhansk ) has been under heavy violence and shellings from the Ukrainian military for the last 8 years,” she wrote.
The United States and its allies have provided Ukraine with defensive weapons and military training.
Richardson Jordan also attacked the West for its intervention in the Balkans war in the 1990s, an intervention launched by allied forces to stop Serbia’s genocide.
“This is the tip of the iceberg,” she wrote in 1999. “The U.S. and NATO have a violent history destabilizing the region, such as when it facilitated the breakup of Yugoslavia after bombing Serbia for 78 days. Ignoring or excusing the U.S.’ role in this crisis is ahistorical and chauvinist.”
The lawmaker was widely mocked on social media for her claims and wrote: “To be clear the current actions of Russia are not acceptable, obviously, just saying there is a larger historical context that we should also be aware of.”
Just another ignorant blm progressive piece of crap!
I agree 100% Doug. Since she loves Putin so much maybe we ought to get her a one way ticket to live with him!
Thrice I’ve tried commenting on this, only to have my comments erased by my incompetent computer, so let me make this short. Despite being about as Conservative/Right Wing as they come, I find myself in rather surprising agreement with the Councilwoman. What she leaves out, however, is the ham-fisted intervention into the Russo-Ukrainian relationship by the Obama and Biden Administrations, which made a habit out of provoking both Russian economic and security concerns in their dealings with the situation (with VP Harris tossing a torch into the woodpile only weeks before the invasion by endorsing the Ukraine’s application to join NATO, an issue that need not even have arisen). Whether these inane behaviors were motivated by self-interest (let’s remember where Hunter gets his money) or by ignorance and hubris matters less than that they continued to wave the red cape in front of the bull and never seemed to appreciate that the bull might react. This is Biden’s War. The Ukraine is merely his proxy (and victim).
I suppose she also thinks that WWII was Britain’s fault.
Another IDIOT!!!! SMDH!!!
She is right those are the facts regardless of her ideology, which I am not familiar with. Nonetheless, when people find it easier to thrive on the propaganda rather than do a little research and listen to all sides, they prefer to follow and support the hypnotic groupthink. The US could stop this war and in fact, they could have prevented it if they had the will and a moral value system that put people ahead of their politics. The US has painted Putin as evil and dictatorial, but it was the US that carried out a coup in 2014. Is that democratic or dictatorial especially when it’s a foreign country. It was the US that actually removed a democratically elected president and replace him with their puppet. Was that democratic or dictatoral? Zelensky is brought and paid for, unfortunately. These are facts.
All Putin wants were to guarantee that Ukraine will remain neutral, that the US and NATO would stop its expansion which they had done twice ignoring Putin’s warnings. He is concerned about the missile build-up and the dangerous US-funded Biolabs that are in his backyard, The US says one thing in public, rally and trigger emotion, using MSM to do its bidding rather than doing earnest reporting, so what is that if not dictatorial masked as a free and open press? Really? All they have to do is follow the Monroe Doctrine and apply the same standards that we applied to Russia during the Cuba crisis when Russie had missiles in Cuba and President Kennedy demanded that they be removed out of our backyard.
What is the difference and what has changed? We are not as democratic as we once were and are more hypocritical. We are demanding sanctions while Biden is paying Russia $74 Million per day for oil while Americans are paying higher prices. . And why, because they hated Trump, politics over people.
They are promoting and pushing Ukrainian to die and send them weapons when it is unnecessary, what caring leaders support death over human life and peace? The US has yet to acknowledge the neo-NAzi presence that their radical violence and their influence because it does not sit well having a Jewish president. But they are a reality and violent.
