A woman accused in Pennsylvania of killing her boyfriend allegedly referenced the slipshod “job” she did cleaning the victim’s blood from a car she’d rented.
24-year old Brook Lank, was arrested shortly before 8 p.m. Monday, by Allegheny County police in connection to the murder of 22-year-old Anthony Lofton. Lank was charged with individual counts of criminal homicide and abuse of a corpse.
Lank has not yet entered pleas to the charges. She is due to appear in court next on April 8, according to online records.
Her public defender could not be reached for comment Wednesday morning.
Lofton’s remains were found about 6:30 a.m. Sunday in Derby Alley in McKees Rocks the morning of March 13, according to a statement from Allegheny County Police.
“First responders found an adult male, with a gunshot wound to the head,” the statement reads. “Police determined 24-year-old Brook Lank of Pittsburgh was the person responsible for the homicide. “
Investigators conducting surveillance of the motel noticed a man cleaning the interior of the Taurus in the parking lot and stopped him. Blood stained the front and rear passenger seats of the vehicle, according to the report.
Lank told detectives she was in a relationship with Lofton and he threatened her with a gun on Saturday evening before he left her house, according to a criminal complaint. Lofton later returned and asked Lank to go to McKeesport to make a drug deal.
While driving to McKeesport, the couple got into a fight and Lank took Lofton’s gun and shot him in the head, she admitted to police. She said she shot him two more times while he was still breathing and reaching for her.
The complaint went on to state that Lank told detectives she panicked and dumped Lofton’s body in the alley. She said she then went home and tried to clean blood out of the car.
Video from Russellwood Avenue captured a car in Derby Alley just before 6 a.m. Sunday. However, a man was seen removing Lofton’s body from the car.
The car, which was a rental, was traced back to Lank. The car’s GPS helped police find the vehicle in a hotel parking lot, where a man was cleaning it.
Detectives interviewed the man, who told them Lank had asked him to go for a ride. When he got into the car with her, he saw Lofton in the front passenger seat and believed he was asleep. The man said he didn’t realize Lofton was dead until Lank asked him to help remove Lofton from the car, according to police.
Lank allegedly told police she tried to clean the bloody car, but “I obviously did not do a very good job.”
Lank is being held without bail. She is being detained in Allegheny County Jail.
The hello kitty tattoo threw me off, she looks like such a sweetheart……
