A 51-year-old Texas woman was arrested for allegedly fatally shooting a man she called her husband over the weekend because he said he was in love with someone else.
On Saturday, May 7, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted that constables from the fourth precinct responded to a shooting at 23642 Buttress Root Drive and found a male suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to Gonzalez, Karin Stewart “advised responding deputies that she shot her husband.”
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office news release says Stewart admitted to killing him because “he told her he was in love with another woman.”
The victim has been identified as James Hargrove. At Stewart’s court appearance Monday, however, a woman named Sandra Hargrove said she was James’ wife and she is “trying to figure out what’s going on.”
“I’m legally his wife. We’ve been married since 2009. We met in 2006. We just separated in November,” said Sandra Hargrove.
Sandra assumed Stewart was her husband’s caregiver but she wasn’t positive because she’s “never met the person.”
Sandra also said the whole situation is very hard to believe because she and James had been married for 14 years. They reportedly talked every other day.
“I had no idea about any of this. All this is new,” she said.
Stewart was booked into custody on a murder charge and her bond is $75,000.
Exclusive surveillance footage from a neighbor shows a car pulling into the driveway at 1:45 a.m on Saturday. The woman claims she and Hargrove were going to let Stewart know they were in love.
That woman says she never expected Stewart’s reaction. She claims Stewart went into the bedroom, got a gun and shot Hargrove.
About 30 minutes after they went inside, the woman, who doesn’t want us using her name, is seen running down the street. She says she heard more gunshots as she ran.
Hargrove’s wife says they’ve had their issues and were separated, but she never imagined it ending like this.
“It’s not believable. Clearly, it is, because I’m here, but it’s not believable,” said a tearful Sandra Hargrove. “Because that’s my husband. He’s still my husband.”
Records reveal it’s not the first time Stewart has been accused of domestic violence. Stewart was charged with felony battery in Jan. 2016 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
According to records, she got into an argument with her husband over keys and ran him over with a truck. One witness to the incident told police he saw her spray lighter fluid in her husband’s face.
Later that year, authorities lowered the charge to simple battery and Stewart pleaded guilty.
