A man accused of slaying a beloved couple in their Washington home has been arrested by authorities.
The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office released a statement saying, 40-year-old Shawn D. Rose has been charged with murder in connection to the deaths of Steven and Mina Shulz, both 51.
On Thursday police said, “The Shulz’s daughter went to check on her parents at their Olalla, Washington home located in the 12900 block of Shady Glen Avenue, when she saw evidence of a break-in and blood inside. Unable to find either of her parents, she called 911.”
Later after police searched the property, at about 5:15 p.m. the couples’ bodies were found gruesomely murdered, by what looked to be homicidal violence.
“Imagine your child coming to check on you and to find that kind of a scene,” Lt. Ken Dickinson said.
Two days after finding the bodies, investigators named Rose as a suspect and said they obtained a felony warrant for his arrest in what they described as a “brutal” double homicide.
Rose was arrested at a Tacoma, Washington, gas station on Sunday night, after leading authorities on a chase through the counties of Mason and Pierce.
The Kitsap County Coroner’s Office is working to determine the Schulzs’ cause and manner of death.
Dwaine Weyland, a friend of the couple’s said, “They were one month shy of opening up their own brewery. Those two were everything to us.”
Detectives are still searching for a motive in the killings. However, they do know that Rose had no connection to the couple.
Investigators are looking for video from the area near Bowe Lane in Port Orchard on Aug. 18 between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., where it is believed Rose stole a vehicle to flee the area. Deputies said the vehicle has since been recovered.
In addition to the murder charge, Rose has also been charged with burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm. His bail has been set at $5 million.
