An alleged drunken golf cart driver was charged with manslaughter after an 18-year-old girl in the passenger seat fell out and died in North Carolina, police said.
Gaston County police responded to a report of someone falling off a golf cart last week near Mount Holly, a suburb of Charlotte.
Cops said multiple people were drinking and driving the cart at the time.
Responders discovered 18-year-old Gabby Carrigan unresponsive and not breathing, police said. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead the next day.
Derek Helms, 19, was allegedly driving the cart at the time Carrigan fell, according to police. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter on Tuesday.
Helms is additionally charged with driving under the influence, felony serious injury by vehicle and reckless driving.
He is being held at Gaston County Jail on a $300,000 bond, jail records show.
Does he take a Mulligan or drop the ball where she landed?
She bears some responsibility for not hanging on. Everyone knows boozeing goes hand in hand with golf!
I agree Sammy! Then again, we live in a demonRAT world where everything is the fault of someone else.
Would his bond be cashless if he was a man if color?
#1: Sammy and Gerald…. I am a friend of the family and your comments are not even remotely amusing.
#2: this is all the information the press has on this. There were 6 kids involved all together and none of them can keep their story straight. In fact, this is the bare minimum of what we know to be true. I won’t go into details due to privacy. I will say, she was not at the scene of the actual place of the accident.
#3: the boy charged with this has a laundry list of crimes he’s either commited himself, or been involved in. So he is absolutely no Saint.
Right now, the family doesnt want to comment to the press, but they are looking for more answers and what really happened, so until then, I suggest you people keep your rude comments to yourselves.
He should not have been driving cart drunk and she should have not been ridding with him.
I also am acquainted with the family and the girl. I do no condone any of the actions by anyone. However, she was known to frequently get pass out intoxicated and mix other substances as well. It is tragic but all were at fault. I fell terrible for all the families.
Why is a 19 year old a “man” but an 18 year old (legal voting age) a “girl”? Republican Scoop, get your act together – no wonder Dems paint all Republicans as misogynists.
