AA man has been arrested for drunk driving and running over a small child multiple times in a Texas parking lot.
According to a Houston Police Department news release, 52-year-old Pedro Alberto Hernandez has been charged with murder and driving while intoxicated in connection with the death of a 6-year-old boy.
The boy was identified as Darien Lewis by his family members.
Authorities said, “On Saturday, Hernandez was driving his pickup truck through a shopping center parking lot when he struck Darien with his vehicle. Darien was pronounced dead at the scene and Hernandez, determined by responding officers to allegedly be intoxicated, was taken into custody.”
The young boy, who suffered with autism, was with his grandfather at the time of the incident.
The pair were walking to get a snack after dinner when the boy was struck by Hernandez.
“I got on the ground, and I held him,” Darien’s grandfather Dana Hubbard said. “I felt his pulse, and said, ‘We have a pulse. Someone call 911 to get my grandson some help.”
“To take his last breath, and him letting go of my hand, it hurts a whole lot,” Hubbard said.
Hubbard claims Hernandez intentionally ran his grandson over three times, while maintaining a smirk on his face the whole time he did it.
“He stopped, he backed up, drove over my grandson again, and stopped his truck on his head,” Hubbard recalled.
According to officers, Hernandez confessed to consuming four beers before getting behind the wheel.
Hernandez has been charged with multiple DWI offenses in the past, though it was not immediately clear how those cases were adjudicated.
Sean Teare with the Harris County Vehicular Crimes Division said, “This was Hernandez’s at least fourth DWI.”
Addressing Hernandez’s previous arrests with drunk driving, Hubbard said, “They let him get away. This is why something like this happened and wasn’t prevented. he has a history.”
“The buck has to stop somewhere. Someone has to be held accountable for their actions,” Hubbard said. “No more slap on the wrist.”
Hernandez is currently being held on a $950,000 bond and is due back in court Jan. 10, 2023.
Here’s a case where the punishment should fit the crime. He should be driven over several times, by the kids grandfather.
How would anyone be so cold hearted as to run over a small child in front of his grandfather? I cannot imagine his agony as he watched his beloved grandson being murdered in front of him. My sympathy and prayers go to the family of this precious child. Vengeance is mine saith the Lord!
Amen and amen!
I think running him over very slowly with a steam roller with the Grandfather driving stating at his feet would be a fitting Punishment .
That should be Starting ( Not stating )
Someone should of shot him thru his window after the 2nd time running over the kid!!
He needs to be incarcerated for a long, long time.
