Most family members would still be distraught and in the throes of grief if their child/grandchild was missing, but Quinton Simon’s mother and grandmother have other plans.
The two were seen downing shots of top-shelf tequila in a bar while FBI agents were searching a garbage dumb for the possible remains of toddler Simon Quinton.
Leilani Simon, little Quinton’s mom and the main suspect in his Oct. 5 disappearance, was spotted boozing with her mom, Billie Jo Howell, on the deck of Sting Ray’s on Tybee Island, just outside Savannah, Georgia.
“They were having a great time, like they didn’t have a care in the world,” the server said. “They were drinking Patron shots in the deck area, being loud and laughing. It’s almost like they were trying to draw attention to themselves.”
The woman said a colleague eventually recognized the duo from news reports, which made other employees angry with their behavior, given the missing 20-month-old, who authorities have said they believe is dead.
“People were getting upset,” the worker said. “They just wanted them out of here. But they stayed for a long time, for hours. It was really strange.”
A video was posted online showing YouTubers attempting to confront the family outside the Sandcastle Inn where they are staying. They were asking Simon’s family why they were drinking instead of looking for him.
Pictures were also posted on social media showing Howell straddling a motorcycle as she left the hotel on the island this past Wednesday.
Georgia cops and the FBI think Quinton’s body was placed in a “specific dumpster at a specific location” that would have been emptied at the county waste management facility, which they have been searching around the clock.
Quinton was last seen on October 5 by his 22-year-old mother’s boyfriend, and she later reported him missing at 9:40 a.m. after waking up.
Simon, who confessed to taking drugs while pregnant in court this week, had texted her babysitter and told her not to come to work at 5:30 a.m. the day that Quinton disappeared.
She had been in court for a custody proceeding related to her other two young children, ages 6 months and 3 years, who have since been placed in foster care by child protective services.
Simon has a rocky relationship with Howell, who previously tried to evict her daughter from the family home and has made comments saying she doesn’t trust her.
Authorities said they are still collecting evidence to have a solid case to ensure a conviction before they would be able to bring charges.
FBI agent Will Clarke said, “We are not just randomly searching this landfill, we have specific evidence that leads us to this large property. This will not be quick, this will not be easy, and the outcome is uncertain.”
Two very sick women. I hope the remains of
that precious child is found, soon. I am glad
the other two children have been taken from
the mother. The grandmother doesn’t sound
like she is fit to be responsible for them, either.
Poor babies. I pray God will be with them and
they are placed with caring families.
omg how could they allow them in the bar.
Another Casey Anthony! If her mother did not trust her, yet she can go out drinking with her, makes me wonder if she is just as guilty!
Agree and that witch is out running around
Kinda sounds like what Casey Anthony did. Partying knowing that her 3 year old was dead!
