Authorities say after investigating the murder case of a man who shot 2 nurses while waiting for the arrival of his child’s birth, they just might have a possible motive behind his motives.
The ex-convict was attending the birth of his child when he started arguing with his girlfriend about infidelity and warning her that he was going to shoot the next person that walked through the door.
Nestor Hernandez, 30, opened fire at around 11 a.m. Saturday as nurses were working in the labor and delivery area at Methodist Dallas Medical Center.
A Methodist Health System police officer shot and wounded the suspect, who was then taken into custody.
Hernandez was transferred to another hospital for treatment. He is now facing capital murder charges for his violent rampage.
Authorities said, ” At the time of Mr. Hernadez’s fatal actions that took two lives, he was on parole for aggravated robbery and was wearing a GPS ankle monitor.”
“Mr. Hernandez was granted permission to be at the hospital Saturday with his girlfriend while she gave birth to their child,” authorities added.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, after the delivery, Hernandez began acting strangely and accused his girlfriend of cheating on him.
He then quickly pulled out a handgun and pistol-whipped the new mother in the head multiple times, then told her, “We are both going to die today” and “whoever comes in this room is going to die with us.”
Authorities reported that Hernandez was true to his word and shot the first victim to come through the door, instantly killing the nurse. Hernandez’s second victim and a hospital police officer heard the gunshot from the hallway. When the second nurse looked into the room to see her co-worker’s lifeless body, she was also shot and killed.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner identified one of the victims as 45-year-old Jacqueline Pokuua. Pokuua was a native of the African country (Ghana) and the daughter of a retired army colonel living in Accra.
Meanwhile, family members identified the second victim as Annette Flowers.
Hernandez was released from prison in Oct. 2021 after pleading guilty to an armed robbery in 2015 and receiving an eight-year sentence. His long rap sheet also consists of charges of burglary, assault of a public servant, robbery, and theft.
Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said, “This hospital shooting is an abhorrent failure of our criminal justice system and a huge travesty. We give violent criminals more of a chance than our victims. The pendulum has swung too far.”
Amen to the police chiefs comment.
