A couple and their two toddlers, were discovered dead inside their Upper West Side apartment with stab wounds in a suspected murder-suicide.
The NYPD reported that officers were called for a wellness check on 86th Street at 2:56 p.m. on Monday. NYPD officers were assisted by the NYC Fire Department to gain access inside the home on the fourth floor of the apartment building.
Once officers gained entry, they were met with a horrific sight. A 41-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, who both had trauma to the neck, were the first two be discovered. After continuing their search through the home, officers also found two children, ages 1 and 3. The three-year-old had trauma to the torso, and the one-year-old had trauma about the body.
The police report read: “Upon entry we discovered the 41-year old man inside a bedroom and the deceased woman was on the hallway floor. After investigating, we found that the man was the longtime superintendent of the building. The medical examiner arrived at the scene of the crime and is currently working hard to determine what the actual cause of death is for the victims.”
The NYPD said, “We received a 911 call from one of the victim’s relatives, who initially discovered the female victim bleeding out on the floor, when looking through the peephole of the door. The relative was able to see inside after drilling into the door, after checking on their family member, who they say they hadn’t heard from since Sunday morning.”
Officers recovered three knives at the scene of the crime. Investigators claimed there was no signs of forced entry and no note was left behind in what may have been a murder-suicide.
The 41-year old man had lived in the W. 86th Street building since he was a young boy.
