A Florida couple is facing charges of child neglect and was taken into custody after their 14-month old child overdosed on cocaine.
Authorities responded to a medical call for an unresponsive toddler in Bonita Springs, Florida.
Diego Tzoy Pu, 33, and Santa Lux Pu De Tzoy, 30, were charged with child neglect and drug possession after police claimed they said the baby ingested “several pills described as oxycodone.”
However, after the police tested the pills, they discovered they contained cocaine.
According to an officer, the pills had been in Tzoy Pu’s wallet, which was sitting on a table that the child had access to. The child was seen screaming and crying with a blue pill in her teeth.
She was then immediately rushed to a local hospital where she is now in stable condition.
“We have to protect those that cannot protect themselves,” Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a statement. “Thank God the child is going to be okay. We will continue to work with DCF to ensure this child is in a safe environment, free of drugs and neglect.”
