A teen girl from Kentucky is facing attempted murder charges after trying to stab a police officer with a screwdriver during arrest.
On Nov. 4, the Mount Washington Police Department shared a press release with details regarding the events that happened leading up to the alleged incident.
The young woman, later identified as 18-year old Kenzie Vanarsdale, was caught trespassing in Lindsey Duvall Park around 6 a.m.
Officer Beamer was the responding law enforcement official that showed up at the scene to check out the report that was called into the station.
Once Bramer arrived, he identified himself to the teen as an officer and when he approached Vanarsdale he tried to obtain identification from her. Before that could happen the girl fled on foot and ran from Bramer.
After chasing her down for awhile, Bramer caught up to Vanarsdale in the 1100 block of Emma Court.
While trying to detain her, she spun around and struck Bramer just above his left eye with a screwdriver. The police department claim her actions put Bramer’s safety at risk and could have severely damaged his eye or even worse killed him by stabbing him in the temple.
The officer was then able to place her in custody before being transported to UL South for treatment where he was later released. That same day, Mount Washington Police spokesman Sgt. Austin Battcher reported that Bramer was doing okay.
Vanarsdale was placed in custody at the Bullitt County Detention Center where she was charged with attempted murder of police. The release added that the teen is currently being investigated for other criminal acts in the Mt. Washington area that occurred that morning.
Her next preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 14 at 10:30 a.m., according to the Kentucky Court of Justice.
