Alabama authorities have arrested a man in connection to his father’s disappearance after human remains were discovered in the suspect’s backyard.
Ledarius Cash, 30 was arrested on Nov. 8 and charged with abuse of a corpse.
On Nov. 6, officers executed a search warrant at a Birmingham home, where they allegedly found skeletal remains, later determined to be human. The remains looked to be in a fresh pile of compost/topsoil in the backyard.
The Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that the examination of the remains revealed the victim had been shot.
According to the Birmingham Police Department, the remains were found behind the home of Ledarius, who is also the son of missing person Donald Cash. Donald, 52, was last seen on Sept. 26 in the Wylam community.
Donald was considered a critical missing person due to the lead detective uncovering facts that would lead police to believe Donald Cash is in danger.
While the remains have yet to be officially identified, they are believed to be those of Donald.
Cash did knowingly and willfully abuse the corpse believed to be his father by burning and/or dismembering the body before improperly burying him.
Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact the Birmingham Police Department’s Homicide Unit at (205)-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at (205)-254-7777.
