An infant in Alabama sadly lost his life after being attacked by a wolf-hybrid, which was kept as a pet by the child’s family.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred in the afternoon and the infant was immediately rushed to the hospital.
Sadly, the infant succumbed to the injuries of the attack, despite immediate medical help.
Authorities said the animal was euthanized by a veterinarian and taken to the Alabama State Diagnostics Laboratory in Auburn for further investigation.
Authorities did not say if charges would be filed in connection to the horrific incident, but did state that the circumstances were pending investigation.
“It’s been confirmed that one of our children here in Chelsea was killed by an exotic family pet and succumbed to their injuries yesterday afternoon after being taken to the hospital by Chelsea Fire & Rescue,” Chelsea, Ala. Mayor Tony Picklesimer said in a statement. “We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate and tragic event. We lift up the family and all those affected with our deepest prayers and thoughts. No further details are available at this time.”
Picklesimer said that other children were also inside the home at the time of the animal attack. Despite this tragedy happening, it was lucky that no others were injured as well.
