Texas authorities are seeking help from the public to discover who the family is of a little girl that was left abandoned at the hospital’s emergency room.
The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services shared in a social media post that a child who told authorities her name is Alejandra was “dropped off” at a hospital in Dallas on Sunday.
“As of now, no family has come forward to claim the child,” authorities stated.
The little girl, who is presumed to be 6-years old, was left at the emergency room of Baylor Medical Center Dallas, possibly by her mother.
In a photo shared by the DFPS, Alejandra is seen in a pink jacket with her hair in a ponytail as she smiles at the camera.
Texas law states that a person who abandons a child “without intent to return” could face a third-degree felony charge.
After a long search, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services say they know the identity of the little girl, who they previously only knew as Alejandra, and that they are now in contact with her relatives.
The 6-year-old is still in CPS care while DFPS looks into options for placing her with family members.
“We’re grateful for the public’s help locating Alejandra’s family,” said a spokesperson for DFPS in a statement.
A court hearing in her case is scheduled for Dec. 14. The case is still actively being investigated.
