Massachusetts authorities discovered the bodies of a teen girl along with her parents inside their home from what looked to be the consequences of a domestic violence dispute.
The Dover Police Department stated, “After an extensive investigation we have determined that the deaths of the victims were a deadly incident of domestic violence. We were dispatched at around 7:24 p.m. to a home on Wilson’s Way after receiving a 911 call from a relative that had stopped by to check on the three family members.”
“When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered two adults, a man and a woman, along with their teenage daughter deceased inside the home,” added the Dover Police Department.
During a live press conference, Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey, identified the victims as; Rakesh Kamal, 57, Teena Kamal, 54, and Arianna Kamal, 18.
According to Morrissey, the state police discovered a firearm on the premises. The medical examiner is set to determine the cause and manner of death, and the district attorney expects an autopsy to occur very soon.
“It’s clear that this is a confined situation to this individual dwelling, and there’s no threat to the other residents of the town,” Morrissey said during the press conference.
In a statement issued via the press release ahead of the news conference, the DA’s office believed that this is an isolated incident. “Although the investigation is at a very preliminary stage, the evidence available at this time does not indicate the involvement of any outside party, but suggests that this is a deadly incident of domestic violence,” they said.
The DA’s office added, “It is not believed that there is any ongoing danger to the Dover community related to this incident.”
During the press conference, however, the DA declined to comment on whether it was a murder-suicide or where the bodies were found.
“It was apparent to those who went in that they were deceased. I just leave it at that,” he said.
Morrissey confirmed that the firearm was found near Rakesh. “I don’t know who it was registered to at this time, that’s part of the ongoing investigation. We will not tell you at this time where it was found, but it was found near the husband, I’ll just leave it at that,” he added.
The couple’s daughter, a freshman studying neuroscience at Middlebury College in Vermont, was home for winter break at the time of her murder.
The Kamals were facing financial troubles before the murder-suicide. Their massive home, a 19,000-square-foot estate, went into foreclosure a year ago and was sold to Massachusetts-based Wilsondale Associates LLC for $3 million.
Teena, who previously ran an education systems company called EduNova with her husband, also filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy in September 2022, listing between $1 million and $10 million in liabilities, filings show. The case, however, was dismissed two months later due to insufficient documentation.
EduNova was launched in 2016 but was dissolved in December 2021.
“I hate to see it at any time,” Morrissey added of domestic violence incidents. “I think some of the tensions that people feel in relationships often come out around the holidays.”
