A mother in Texas is being charged with capital murder for the death of her daughter after police found her running around naked at the scene of the crime.
Nephiterea Sancho, 36, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with capital murder of a child under 10 in connection with the death of her 6-year-old daughter, Hosanna Sancho.
Officers were called to Frontera Crossing Apartments off Watson Road in San Antonio, Texas on a disturbance call at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Hosanna unresponsive with an apparent wound to her upper body, though the exact cause of her death is still unknown.
“There was no gun or gunshot wound to the victim,” Sergeant Washington Moscoso said. “The child did die from trauma to the body, just not a gunshot wound.”
“We later realized that , Nephiterea, who was running around naked at the scene, was the mother of the child. We arrested her as a person of interest and took her into custody for further questioning,” Moscoso continued.
According to past records, Nephiterea has spent time in facilities to treat severe mental illness after being previously arrested and charged for injuries to children.
Nephiterea is currently being held on $1 million bond. It’s not immediately clear if she has entered a plea or retained an attorney.
Hosanna’s family said, “She was a bright girl. She played the violin, learned how to do cartwheels, and was teaching her cousins how to do those things too. She loved to swim and be around water. Hosanna wanted to be a cheerleader and ride the school bus for the first time, but now she will never get to do those things.”
