Rock musician Theo Lengyel, who once played in the experimental rock band ‘Mr. Bungle’, was arrested in California in connection with the death of his missing girlfriend.
The Capitola Police Department confirmed Lengyel’s arrest and stated that investigators found human remains in the woods located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The remains were discovered while authorities were searching for Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani Herrmann, who had been missing since early December.
The identification of the human remains is pending DNA confirmation from the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities said that it became clear that there was foul play involved and after collecting evidence, it led them to Lengyel being the main suspect.
Lengyel, 54, was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on a first-degree murder charge. Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office records show Lengyel remained in jail without bond.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time,” the police department said. “The case remains an ongoing investigation.”
Herrmann, 61, was last seen in Santa Cruz, California and had been missing since Dec. 3, investigators with the El Cerrito Police Department said in a news release on Dec. 16. Herrmann’s relatives reported her missing after not hearing from her for more than a week.
Investigators found her car outside Lengyel’s home in El Cerrito, California and said that based on his actions, Theo Lengyel is a person of interest in Alice Herrmann’s disappearance and has not cooperated with the police investigation.
Investigators added that Lengyel was also believed to have driven from El Cerrito to Portland, Oregon during the following days of Herrmann’s disappearance. Both his and her vehicles were taken into police custody for further investigation.
Lengyel also goes by the stage name “Mylo Stone” from his time playing saxophone, clarinet, and keyboards as a member of Mr. Bungle from 1985 until 1996.
