The cries of a woman inside a motel room led police to find a woman that had been missing since 2017 in Michigan.
Michigan State Police officials responded to a tip on Feb. 26 regarding a missing person.
An anonymous woman called police and reported that her stepdaughter, who went missing in 2017, had called her claiming she was being held against her will at a motel in Inkster, Michigan.
Investigators quickly pin pointed that the call was from the Evergreen Motel in Inkster.
After police arrived at the scene, a female was heard screaming and crying inside a motel room. Troopers made forcible entry into the motel room and recovered the woman safely.
“They described it as like a crying, kind of screaming type of noise that lured them to that specific area,” Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said.
The woman, who police are not identifying at this time for safety purposes, did not have any physical injuries and was beyond distraught when officers discovered her.
“She was sent to a local hospital nearby in Dearborn and treated before we returned her to her family,” Shaw added.
The woman was found alone when police arrived and investigators are currently looking into what occurred during the time she was reported missing.
After searching the room, police did find drugs, firearms, and cell phones at the scene. A suspect has also been identified by the woman, but no one has been taken into custody at this time by authorities.
The rescued woman was reported to be in her 30s and she told police she had voluntarily left her family in 2017 when she was in her 20s.
Authorities are trying to determine if human trafficking was involved in the woman’s disappearance. They are also looking into whether it was a possible domestic violence case.
“It may have started out as a relationship that turns into being held against your will and being trafficked,” Shaw said.
