Justin Timberlake was arrested early Tuesday in the Hamptons for allegedly driving under the influence after running a stop sign and drifting out of his lane.
The 43-year-old “SexyBack” singer was pulled over in Sag Harbor, Long Island, shortly after midnight. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, running a stop sign, and failing to stay in his lane.
Timberlake later appeared in court looking disheveled, wearing a black baseball cap, a gray graphic T-shirt with “Live Circuit” on it, and a black short-sleeve button-up.
He was shortly released without bail.
According to sources, Timberlake had been out partying with friends at the upscale American Hotel on Main Street, just a short walk from the local police station.
After leaving the hotel, he quickly ran a stop sign, prompting immediate police action.
“He went to dinner with friends, and there were cops stationed outside. He pulled out, and they stopped him for a traffic violation,” a source said.
Timberlake failed a field sobriety test, which included a one-legged stand and a walk-and-turn.
Sources reported he had glassy eyes and smelled of alcohol but refused to take a breathalyzer test. Despite his friends’ attempts to persuade the officers to let him go, Timberlake was handcuffed and taken into custody.
Ironically, the hotel where Timberlake was dining is directly across the street from one of the Hamptons’ most prominent lawyers, Eddie Burke Jr., whom Timberlake has now retained.
Court records show that his next appearance is set for July 26, although Timberlake is not required to attend this procedural date.
His driver’s license will be suspended in New York, and sources noted that he holds an out-of-state license.
The former NSYNC member, known as the “Prince of Pop,” has been on his “The Forget Tomorrow World Tour” since April and has concerts scheduled in New York City next week.
Timberlake is set to perform at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday and Wednesday, with additional shows planned for Friday and Saturday at Chicago’s United Center.
