A Kentucky woman held captive and chained to the floor was rescued to safety by authorities in Kentucky.
The Louisville Metro Police Department posted on Facebook that they had received a call from neighbors around 7 p.m. last Wednesday. The neighbors saw a woman screaming for help from a second-story window of a house on Bolling Avenue.
“Not all heroes wear capes,” police said in the statement, which was accompanied by a video that included bodycam footage of the incident and indicated that when police attempted to force their way into the home, they discovered the house was barricaded.
“We had to use a ladder to climb up to the window. An officer said he saw the victim inside, shackled to a chain and secured by a Masterlock. The chain was bolted secure to the floor with screws,” an officer said.
Officers had to use a hatchet to free the woman. The victim was removed from the home and received immediate treatment from the fire department and EMS.
Louisville police said, “We arrested the suspect in the case two days after discovering the victim.”
Louisville reported last Friday that Moises May, 36, was charged with one count of kidnapping, wanton endangerment, assault, harassment, intimidating a participant in the legal process and terroristic threatening.
The victim, who later identified herself as 37-year-old Jonna Wilson, shared her story.
“I said, ‘This is my only time, if I don’t get free now, I’m going to be dead,'” Wilson recounted her horrific experience. “And so I got close enough to the window to kick it out and call for help.”
Wilson said May is her estranged boyfriend and the father of her child.
“He asked me to clean his house and offered to pay me,” Wilson added. “After I went inside his house, he pinned me to the ground, slapped me, and then used a machete to chop off my hair. I was scared and almost in shock. He then locked me up.”
Wilson went on to report to officers that May told her, “You’re gonna get it tonight. I told you the next time you leave and don’t come home I’d kill you.”
“As soon as he locked that lock, I knew it was over,” Wilson said. “He took my phone from me and made sure to screw every door shut. The fire department couldn’t even knock down the doors. That’s how bad they were screwed. He even bolted all the windows, he covered every exit. There was no escaping.”
Wilson stated, “I just want to see him go to jail. I just want justice, I want my daughter and myself to be safe.”
Despite the pile of evidence against him, May pleaded not guilty in a court hearing on Saturday.
