A former FBI contractor from Arlington, Virginia, is facing child sexual exploitation and child pornography charges after a months-long investigation discovered he was allegedly grooming minors through social media.
Brett Janes, 26, used social media platforms (such as Snapchat and Discord) to lure and contact numerous minor boys to groom them. This took place between January and May of 2023.
According to an arrest affidavit, Janes (username Revision#3409 on Discord) manipulated the young boys to strip for him on camera and engage in sexually explicit conversations.
With a 13-year old boy, Janes threatened threatened suicide and manipulated the boy into unblocking him on social media after the child blocked him multiple times.
The child’s father reported Revision#3409 to the Galloway Township Police Department in Galloway, N.J. on February 20, which is when the investigation began.
Janes continued this behavior with several other young boys on Discord and Snapchat. On at least one noted occasion, Janes tried to convince a minor to engage in BDSM, a concept the minor didn’t fully understand.
Janes also asked minors for pictures of their private parts, even when the minors refused due to be uncomfortable with the idea.
According to a statement from the Department of Justice, Janes allegedly used the Telegram app to buy “hundreds” of items of child sexual abuse content, including videos and photographs.
Janes also talked a 12-year old boy into going along with these acts by using flattery and repeated begging tactics. Then forced the boy to send him child sexual abuse material via Discord.
Janes faces two counts of sexual exploitation of children and production of CSAM; one count of attempted coercion and enticement; and one count of receipt of child pornography.
