A mother in Kentucky was arrested for killing her two young children inside their home this week.
The Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement, “Tiffany Lucas was arrested and charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of her children, ages 6 and 9. The victims’ names are not being released publicly at this time.”
Officers arrived at the home after a report was made that there was a shooting around 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Shepherdsville home, were they found the two kids with gunshot wounds.
According to an arrest report, a witness told police she went inside the house and discovered the two boys in the bedroom. A gun, believed to be the murder weapon, was found on a bed.
The children were later pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital a short time later.
Authorities are still investigating the crime scene heavily and are not releasing any further details about the shooting.
“At this time, it appears all parties in relation to this incident have been accounted for and there is no threat to the community,” the release states.
According to previous court records, Lucas was convicted of drug possession in the past and spent one month in jail.
“Whether you think it’s mental illness, just pure evil, a combination of both, it could be substance abuse, any combination thereof,” Col. Alex Payne, Chief Deputy of the Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office said. “Pick your poison. None of it’s good. The result is horrific.”
A shocked local resident, Carol Warren, said, “I know people get aggravated, but that is just over the top.”
Lucas, 32, was sent to the Bullitt County Detention Center, where she’s being held on a $2 million bond. A judge reportedly entered a not-guilty plea on her behalf.
