A bright and young college freshman lost her life Thursday after being shot while walking a track in Nashville, Tennessee.
Jillian Ludwig, 18, a student at Belmont University, had been shot Tuesday afternoon while she was walking in Edgehill Community Memorial Gardens Park, the Metro Nashville Police Department reported.
Authorities stated, “The bullet was fired from a public housing complex across the street from the track.”
Shaquille Taylor was shooting at a car and one of the bullets hit Ludwig in the head. Taylor was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and tampering with evidence.
His bond is currently set at $280,000. Jail records do not indicate if Taylor has retained an attorney.
In a post Thursday, police said they are discussing modifying the charges against Taylor with the District Attorney’s office following Ludwig’s death.
“Ludwig, originally from New Jersey, had been in extremely critical condition before she died during the night Wednesday,” an officer added.
“Jillian is an engaged member of our community who is known for her love of music,” Belmont University President Greg Jones said in a statement after the shooting. “A music business major and bass player, she is often found at concerts, cheering on fellow musicians and using music as a way to connect with those around her. Jillian is also an avid runner who enjoys being outside.”
