Well-known rapper Kodak Black was arrested by Florida authorities on drug possession charges on Thursday, making this the musician’s third arrest in two years.
Kodak Black, 26, was booked in Broward County on charges of cocaine possession, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and improperly parking or stopping a vehicle.
Black, whose real name is Bill Kapri, was released the same day of his arrest on $5,000 bond.
Authorities claimed Black was arrested in Plantation after an officer found him sleeping in the driver’s seat of his Bentley SUV, while parked on the side of the road.
The officer reported that he smelled a very strong odor of burnt cannabis upon approaching the vehicle. The officer opened the door to find a cup that smelled of alcohol and drug paraphernalia in the center console.
“Black was asked to exit the vehicle and when the officer asked if he had any weapons or illegal possessions on him, he answered he had weed. However, the officer also noticed a white powder substance and noted in his report that he believed Black was trying to discard illegal narcotics,” an officer at the scene recounted.
According to court documents, a white substance found at the scene tested positive for cocaine, and weighed in at 4.1 grams.
Black, who released his sixth album When I Was Dead in November, was ordered to a 30-day drug rehab in February after he tested positive for fentanyl during a mandatory drug test.
He also reportedly had a warrant for his arrest issued in June after he skipped a mandatory drug test. Black was charged with trafficking oxycodone and possession of a controlled substance in July 2022, with regular drug testing a condition of his release.
“Never judge a case based on an arrest,” his attorney Bradford Cohen said at the time of his arrest. “There are facts and circumstances that give rise to a defense, especially in this case.”
Black was also arrested in Pompano Beach, Florida in 2022 on allegations of trespassing, and in 2021. He entered a deal to plead guilty to first-degree assault and battery after he was accused of sexually assaulting a teen girl in 2016.
