A school security officer is under investigation after admitting to making explosives with a student and selling them on Instagram in California.
The United States Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of California released a statement claiming, Angelo Jackson Mendiver, 27, who worked as a campus security supervisor at Arvin High School, pleaded guilty on Monday to conspiring to engage in manufacturing and dealing in explosive materials and mailing explosive devices, as well as making false statements to FBI agents.
Mendiver sold the explosives on Instagram and worked with the high school student to send them to residents in other states via the mail.
After a search warrant was issued, authorities arrived at Mendiver’s home on June 1, 2023 and discovered 500 lbs. of explosives and explosive materials. Then another 500 lbs. of explosive items were seized at the residence of the juvenile student too.
Other items used to make explosives were also found at both of their residences.
According to U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert, following an ongoing investigation, Mendiver, on Monday, ended up pleading guilty to conspiring to engage in manufacturing and dealing in explosive materials and mailing explosive devices, as well as making false statements to FBI agents.
Mendiver, who faces a maximum statutory penalty of five years in prison and a $250,00 fine for each count, is set to be sentenced next April on the 1st.
