A Florida deputy was charged with aggravated child abuse in Volusia County for abusing his daughter severely.
Orange County deputy Tristan Chattic chocked and stepped on his 13-year old daughter after hitting her repeatedly with a belt. Chattic became irate when he discovered his daughter using a tablet to do her schoolwork.
Authorities responded to Fish memorial Hospital after receiving a domestic violence issue report. After arriving at the hospital, officers met Chattic’s wife, who proceeded to inform the officers she feared for her daughter’s injuries.
Chattic’s wife said, “Our daughter was using her tablet to help with homework, but when she used Alexa to answer a question, my husband became angry. He unplugged the device, which led my daughter to plug it back in. This made my husband even angrier.”
“He yelled at her, slapped her in the face, grabbed her hair and then chocked her,” Chattic’s wife said through tears as she recounted the event. “He also shoved her off a chair, which made her head hit off the floor. He then stepped on her back and pinned her down. He took off his belt and started beating her repeatedly with it.”
Chattic’s wife also told officers that she had walked in as he was stepping on their daughter’s back while he was hitting her with the belt. However she didn’t see the altercation begin, but she rushed over to intervene.
“He was in a rage by the time I tried to rush over and help. He shoved me away and then finally came to his senses,” Chattic’s wife added.
She told deputies that her husband had been recently having volatile spells and was unable to control his anger. Before this incident occurred, she claimed that her husband had never been physically abusive, but he was always mentally and emotionally abusive.
When Chattic was questioned by the authorities, he claimed he became upset because his daughter was grounded and wasn’t supposed to be using electronic devices.
“In an attempt to scare her, I grabbed her gently,” Chattic told officers.
The Volusia County deputies were notified the house has a video camera inside the home to monitor if the children take after-bedtime snacks. However, deputies shared that the camera recording did not have footage, and due to the “suspicious nature,” Chattic was then arrested.
Chattic, 39, was taken into custody on Wednesday and released on Thursday on a $5,000 bond. He was relieved of duty from the Orange County Sheriff’s office without pay as the criminal case proceeds. He has been employed by the OCSO since February 2015.
“These are extremely serious criminal allegations. At the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, we hold our deputies to the highest ethical standards whether they are on duty or off duty,” Orange County Sheriff John Mina said in a statement. “I have a zero-tolerance policy toward child abuse or any form of domestic violence. These allegations will be thoroughly investigated and the results of that investigation will be made public.”
Chattic is scheduled for an arraignment on Feb. 29 in Volusia County Circuit Court.
My dad says that chocking fatalities are on the rise in this country, and it’s because the Democrats in Washington are suppressing knowledge about the health benefits of pickle juice.
