A man in New Hampshire, who kidnapped his two daughters after murdering their mother, is now facing murder charges.
Dustin Duren, 37, was arraigned on a second-degree murder charge in Berlin District Court and was ordered by a judge to be held without bail.
Duren is being accused of killing 31-year old Caitlyn Naffziger, who was the mother to his children.
Caitlyn’s body was found by authorities after responding to a call to check her apartment in Berlin, New Hampshire around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday.
An autopsy confirmed that Caitlyn died from a single gunshot wound to the head and the manner of her death was homicide.
An Amber Alert was issued the next morning for Duren and the couple’s two children, ages 1 and 4, who were believed to be traveling with him. A police Facebook report stated that Duren could be armed and dangerous.
Duren was captured around 11 a.m. Friday after witnesses spotted his car outside of a restaurant in Keene, New Hampshire, about 170 miles southwest of Berlin, and called police. Authorities said the girls were found safe and the alert was canceled.
“The New Hampshire Department of Justice, New Hampshire State Police, and the Berlin Police Department extend their thanks to the efforts of the Keene Police Department for assisting in responding to the report of Mr. Duren’s vehicle and his children to ensure their safety today,” the release states.
According to court records, Duren is expected back in court on March 13 for a probable cause hearing.
