A Florida man was arrested and facing charges for an alleged kidnapping. He was reported to have approached and removed a woman’s 3-year old child from a shopping cart at Walmart parking lot in Naples, Florida.
Enben Moodley (40), is charged with child abuse and false imprisonment, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
It was reported, the child’s mother said, “I saw him yelling at cashiers and causing a scene inside the store on Sunday.” Authorities reported Moodley had slurred speech and appeared intoxicated amidst his arrest.
The mother also said, “I avoided him, paid for my items, and left the store with my child in the shopping cart. He then suddenly approached me in the parking lot and pulled my child out of the cart.”
“When the mother began screaming for help Moodley put the child back into the cart and walked away,” the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies located and apprehended Moodley shortly after the incident and quickly placed him under arrest. Moodley did not know the child, who was uninjured.
Investigators believe it was an isolated incident, though deputies are increasing patrols in the area, according to the sheriff’s office. However, they are still investigating what Moodley exact intent was by taking the child.
