An Arizona man waved down a passing officer a little after midnight to confess he killed someone and then took the officer to the victim’s body.
Jay Albert Stevens, 52, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder after allegedly confessing to the crime in the middle of a McNeal, Arizona, street at 1 a.m. Thursday, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office said.
Stevens was standing in Central Highway when he waved down an officer.
The officer proceeded to stop and ask if Stevens needed any help and if everything was okay.
To the officer’s surprise, Stevens said, “I just shot and killed a man.”
Stevens then led officers to a home where they found the body of a 61-year old man.
“He was fatally shot and wounded,” an officer said. “There was no chance of saving the man from his wound. He was already unresponsive and gone by the time we arrived at the scene.”
Officers immediately arrested Stevens at the scene and charged him with first-degree murder. He was booked into the Cochise County Jail.
