A missing Georgia woman was discovered dead in a ravine after she wired her daughter $2,385, along with the chilling message, “They are not going to let me go, love you.”
The body of Debbie Collier, 59, was found Sept. 11, two days after she’d last left her Athens home in a rented SUV.
Collier’s daughter, Amanda Bearden said, “My mom’s car was in the shop, so she had a rental car. She left home with only her driver’s license and a debit card.”
The rented vehicle’s SiriusXM satellite radio was tracked to US 441 near Victory Home Lane, about 60 miles from Collier’s home. A K-9 team located the woman’s body nearby, as well as a red tote bag and partially-burned blue tarp.
Investigators are treating her death as a homicide, which Bearden’s missing-person’s report suggests may have been the result of a kidnapping.
Bearden told Athens Clarke County police that her mother had suddenly sent her $2,385 through Venmo, along with the terrifying message.
The tragic mom, who had worked for Carriage House Realty in Athens, and her husband got married in 2013.
Collier’s Facebook page is filled with images of her family and trips they took together.
Collier’s friends and relatives have declined to comment publicly about the mysterious case.
