Authorities made a tragic discovery after finding an elderly man’s body floating in a Central Park pond in broad daylight on Monday.
Cops say they believe the man may have fallen ill and then toppled over into the water.
The 76-year-old man was found floating face-down in Turtle Pond, near the iconic Belvedere Castle, around 4:30 p.m.
He was pulled out by the NYPD Emergency Services Unit.
Police made a statement early Tuesday morning, “The man, whose identity was not immediately known, may have suffered a medical episode before he fell into the water.”
“At this time, we are investigating the situation and what unfolded to cause the man to fall into the water. We have a firm belief that would play was in no way used during the incident,” the statement concluded.
The city medical examiner’s office will officially determine how he died.
