A little boy riding his bike to his friend’s house to have some fun, is now hospitalized after being attacked by a dog.
Little 5-year old Mason Mihlberger’s mom and dad cam running after they heard their son’s frantic screams for help.
To their horror, the sight of a husky mauling their young son, greeted their eyes. The boy’s mother and father took quick action to help save Mason.
After the attack, Mason was rushed to the hospital by helicopter, where he received between 2,000 to 3,000 stitches on his face and ear. The doctors also had to use skin grafting to heal Mason’s wounds.
Mason’s left ear was also partially bitten off and that part of his ear was later found inside the dog’s stomach with x-rays.
“If me and my husband weren’t there, my son would be dead right now,” Mason’s mother Tori Mihlberger said. “He went for his throat; he has bite marks on his throat.”
“His eyes were locked on Mason,” Tori said. “As I came up the dog was dragging him across the road, just throwing him around like a rag doll. I don’t know why but that dog wanted to kill my son.”
Tori recalled that she had to kick the dog to free her son, but the dog persisted. The dog tried to corner her husband and bite Mason again. They eventually had to restrain the dog and hold it down.
“He was dragging me all around, but my mom and dad came,” Mason said after his traumatic experience.
Tori also wanted it well known that her son did not provoke the dog in anyway. The dog was wearing a collar, but didn’t have any tags, so animal control took him in.
Authorities are still deciding what will happen to the dog or if the owners will face charges.
The boy’s aunt, Tristen Cherie Smith, created a GoFundMe to help raise money for Mason’s medical expenses.
In an update yesterday, Smith wrote that Mason was out of surgery and called him a “sweet baby boy.”
“He’s only 5 years old, and he’s lucky to be alive,” the fundraiser’s description reads. “He has many many surgeries ahead of him.”
See there u go at any time your child comes in contact with a dog like that, you never know what can happen. Even dog owners you should never leave baby or small child in a room with a large dog alone!
Not ever, better safe than Sorry!
This happened to me when I was 10. I was walking on the opposite side of the atreet and a german shepherd was chained in his yard. He broke the chain and came after me. I never saw him coming. The only reason Im alive is that the owner and her son came home and pulled their dog off of me. The dog was a “show dog” and was at a show 4 weeks later and attacked a dog show judge. Finally the dog was put down. My trauma and permanent scars I guess were not enough reason.
Patti, what you went through is just 1 example of that people cannot trust any dog no matter how well they are trained.
My mom was attacked b6 a German Shepard almost 50 years ago. It was a dog she knew by name as she worked for our town vet. We knew the people that owned the dog, the owner’s sister was our neighbor for 47 years. Mom walked up the driveway, the dog came out of the garages, mom called him by name, he came to her, she scratched his ears and when she turned to continue to the house the dog lunged and grabbed her by the throat. Luckily he let go before he killed her. She continued to the door, told the owner the dog had bit her and asked for a towel to stop the bleeding, then she drove herself to the ER. The owner barely acknowledged that it had happened, our neighbor was mortified and the vet immediately on hearing about it told animal control to go get the dog and he put it down. Turned out the dog had killed other pets in the neighborhood and bit children before my mom. She was afraid of German Shepards from that day on, even ones she had known since they were puppies and that loved my mom.
Deborah, every dog is considered a viscious animal. The owners failed to have full control of their dog that was not on a leash or on their property. The owners of this dog will pay dearly . You are right when you say that dog owners should never leave their children alone with any dog. One never knows when their dog will attack. I watch Judge Judy.
Small dogs are just as vicious as large dogs its the owners that allow behavior and attention to the the dogs ive had Sheppard mixes all my life and none of them have had a mean bone in their body towards people and have seen more small dogs bite and be agressive than large dogs
I would hope that one of your dogs was never a pitbull. ANY DOG is considered a viscious dog. I just finished watching Judge Judy. The ladys pitbull got out of her home, bit a guy and his dog he was walking on city property. She has to pay the guy $5000 because she failed to keep her dog under her control. My dad passed away several years ago. Part of my fathers estate, he had a beagle that bit my brothers son and my brother tried to sue me but since i was in court a couple weeks prior to the dog bite , i told the judge i didnt want the dog. The judge told my brother the dog is his responsibility.
God bless that little fella. I hope you are good as new very soon.
