A Houston, Texas woman says she was rushed to the hospital after touching a napkin on her car door that was apparently poisoned.
Erin Mims was at a Houston restaurant celebrating her birthday on Tuesday afternoon with her husband, but when the couple went back to get in their car, a napkin was on the door.
Mims said, “I didn’t think much about it and just grabbed it and threw it away. I opened the door with the tips of my fingers and asked my husband ‘did you put a napkin in the door?’ and he said no.”
“I went back in the restaurant and washed my hands before getting back in our car. Then my fingers started feeling tingly and other symptoms started happening,” Mims went on to explain. “Maybe five minutes, my whole arm started tingling and feeling numb. I couldn’t breathe. I started getting hot flashes, my chest was hurting, my heart was beating really fast.”
When Mims arrived at the hospital, doctors ran urine samples, blood tests, and a CAT scan. They stated her vitals were all over the place.
“The doctor came in, and told me it wasn’t enough in my system to determine what it was, but said it was acute poisoning from an unknown substance,” Mims said.
The doctor said that the incident sounded like a failed kidnapping attempt.
The Houston Police Department said this is the first case of its kind that the department has seen after the woman filed a police report.
Mark Winter, managing director of the Southeast Houston Poison Center, said that Mims’ symptoms as described match with hundreds of poisons.
“The probability is that you would have to have a lot more than just a casual exposure,” Winter said. “In her video, her symptoms match hundreds of different poisons. It is possible. I’ve learned over my 40 years, that anything is possible when it comes to the human body.”
Retrieve the napkin and test. Didn’t think of that, huh?
I honestly don’t think I would have thought to hang on ta napkin stuck in the door either. I would thought somebody was too lazy to throw it in the trash and just stuck it in the door
It is horrible that this happened to you! Evil people are becoming more numerous and it is a scary world. I pray you make a full recovery and that there are no long term effects. Stay safe!
Couldn’t have been an allergic reaction to something?
People develop allergies out of the blue at different ages. Idk, sounds weird af
I would have traced it to something she ate at restaurant. And where is the napkin…why didn’t someone retrieve from trash?
